Fords vs. Chevys

I think that Fords are the best trucks on earth. My grandpa has been a Ford lover since I can remember so, that is one of the reasons why I like Fords. Another reason is that the Triton V8 is, in my opinion, the best gas powered engine on the market. Also, I think Ford has the second best diesel engine, the Powerstroke. I think the only better diesel engine is a Dodge Cummings. To me, Chevy has nothing going for them, their gas engines are weak, and their diesel engine is behind Dodge and Ford. Those are some reasons why I think Fords are better than Chevys.

Deer Hunting

I have been deer hunting for two years by myself and five years before that with my dad. Two years ago I killed one while I was hunting at my Grandpa's. Last year I bagged two deer, one at my Grandpa's again, and one at my Grandpa's cousin. The first shotgun season starts the 21th of November and ends on the 16th. The second season is a little longer and it goes from December 4th to December 7th. You can also hunt deer with a muzzle loader, pistol, and a bow in Illinois. I enjoy deer hunting almost as much as I enjoy coon hunting.

Coon Hunting

I can't wait till coon season starts. It begins November 5 and goes till February 15. It is so much fun, you get to go run through the woods all night shooting coons and chasing your dog. Coon hunting is awesome, the only lights you have are the stars and the really old NiteLite I got from my uncle. My dog that I bought last year is pretty good at tracking and really good at fighting the coons when they come out of the tree. His name is Smoking Jed and he is a registered Plott hound, which means I can breed him to another registered dog and sell the pups and make some money.

Last Nights Game

Last nights football game was amazing. I got to play three-back and middle linebacker. It was sweet, because most of the time I play left tackle, so three-back was a real treat. I scored a touchdown, a two point conversion, and had a bunch of first downs. My first run was for 18 yards and I layed out two people at once and then another one farther down the field. On defense I almost had three sacks, but the QB threw it away. Also, I almost had an interception but couldn't hold onto it with my "lineman's hands." On one play I grabbed the back of the runningback's jersey and pulled him back with one arm into the endzone, it was AWESOME! I had a whole bunch of tackles in the backfield, it was a great night. We won 28 to 0.

History of Halloween

Halloween is a very old holiday that was started by the Celts. They thought that on that night the barrier between the living and the dead was destroyed. Its was thought that the evil spirits would roam that night and destroy crops and cause sickness. In order to prevent this they wore masks to try to confuse the evil spirits, and that is how the costumes came along. The name "Halloween" came from the abbreviation of "All Hallows Eve", which is the day before All Saints Day.

Halloween wasn't a holiday in the US until about 1845-1849 when the Irish Potato Famine hit and many immigrants moved to the US bringing their customs and holidays. After 1870 children began to go trick-or-treating until the turn of the 20th century. From then until 1930 Halloween was a night of vandalism and destruction. By the end of the 1930's trick-or-treating was widespread in the US.

Personally I could take or leave Halloween. When I was younger I liked it because I could go run around at night and get free candy. Now that I'm older I don't go trick-or-treating but I do enjoy going to other people's parties. If there wasn't a Halloween I would be upset, but I would miss all the parties.

Standardized Testing

I don't think that Standardized testing is important. It is used to compare smaller high schools, with an average teaching staff, to large ones with better qualified teaching staff. Also they use that to determine what kind of cirriculm a student should have. I believe that students should get to pick what classes they want to takebased on what they would like to do after high school. Another reason I think that Standardized testing is not important is because I belive that your intellegence is based on more than just book smarts. I belive that some students may not be good test takers but are very good students, overall. I think that a performance evaluation would be better to find out a students intelligence, than a standarized test where he/she is compared to the rest of the nation's students. Those are some reasons I dislike Standardized testing.
